The Empire CrowdStrikes Back
The CrowdStrike outage was awful. I hate to hear that tools that are meant to protect us hurt us. I’m relieved that it was them though because if it were a malicious actor then we would probably still be living in that world. Think about it. Whole systems that we depend on to get around and tools that hospitals need to manage patients are knocked out. People would not be getting the care they need or be stranded in an airport. The latter is worse but being in airport is terrible. It’s not that airports are bad. You’ve got expensive food and water. It’s that the people in them are insane. Traveling in general sucks, because other people are traveling.
Anyway, what was I talking about? Oh yeah. Someone once asked me if there is a program or some tool that we can buy to protect us from getting hacked or being scammed. The short answer is no, but the better news is there is something other than software and it’s free. Hear me out. Knowledge paired with curiosity. If one is humble and constantly seeks on how to better protect themselves online then they will be in the best position to perhaps deflect the attack or be able to bounce back from getting hit.
Bad things will happen. Would you rather it be an inconvenience such as changing your password or devastation such as trying to get your credit score fixed because someone went on a shopping spree with a Banana Republic credit card with your name on it. Stay curious and stay frosty.
