wow “A”m “I” concerned

I listened to this story on the drive to work. My stomach is in knots as I write this. I’ve been trying to understand my fear and figured I should write it down.

A young boy fell in love with a machine and figured he should kill himself to be with the machine, which had told him to do so. It’s so dark. The fear about artificial intelligence has usually been compared to James Cameron’s Terminator taking us out, but I think that this is the first strike against humanity. What’s also different is that the machine is not a fault and neither is the child. The developers are. The people behind the machine that programmed it. I’m so sad for his parents. The only fortunate thing about the situation is that the mom is a lawyer and will fight these guys. I’m rooting for her. I hope that these monsters go to jail.

This child fell in love with a machine?! What’s the future in that?! For him?! No wonder he felt the way he did. I’m sure he’s not the only one right now in this situation. There are more right now. That being said. I hope that if you have kids you talk to them about artificial intelligence. Maybe don’t share this story if they are too young, but if they are then you definitely should. Let them know that this is not a real friend. Especially if they are at that age when the lower half of their body does the thinking. Nurture when they show interest in someone. Falling in love is amazing. Holding the hand of someone you love is a miracle. Not typing on a keyboard.

I’m worried if we don’t that we could have an entire generation that doesn’t want to talk to each other and fall in love. Real love. Love with a future. Love that leads to future generations. It’s like this child is the first case of Covid. Rather than a cough bringing the world to a stand still it’s something as small as a programmed response leads to a bullet in the brain. At this rate when the Terminators are out there there won’t be any humans to kill.
