Be a Villain

The latest exposed attack on Internet Service Providers inspired me to write this blog. We need to become like the criminals. Just to be clear, not “become“ criminals, but be “like“ criminals. Especially when it comes to how we communicate and surf the internet.

Let’s talk about Virtual Private Networks, VPN. My internet service providers stores the places I go on the internet. Yours too. You didn’t know that? Well now you do. Now, if I mix in a VPN, the ISP, Internet Service Provider, (Should I have spelled the word first and then the acronym? I don’t really care. This is a blog. I don’t need to writer gooderly) only knows that I went to the VPN’s site. Everything that comes after that “should“ be encrypted. That’s the magic word. Encryption. Magical math that turns our words into gobbly gook words.

Now let’s talk about Signal and why end to end encryption is so important when we text. Here’s a fun story. Read that and then come back. I’ll wait…

Welcome back! It’s ok. I know you didnt’ read it. I hate when people give me something to read. I would hate if I was reading something and then someone told me to read something while I’m reading something. I’ll break it down. ATT was hacked and everyone’s text messages were exposed. Jee Zuss! They know my shopping list!

Anyway, if you use an app like Signal then who cares. Signal has end to end encryption, so it’s just gobbly gook writing to anyone in between your conversation.

I can understand if you don’t want to use Signal to talk to everyone. VPNs also cost money. I just want you to be aware of these tools in case you change your mind.

Here’s a list of encryption apps or VPNs for you to check out:
